Political activism among youth in South Africa has a long and storied history, rooted in the struggle against apartheid and the quest for freedom, equality, and justice. While the apartheid regime officially ended in 1994 with the election of Nelson Mandela as the first black president of South Africa, youth activism has continued to play a significant role in the country's political landscape. According to news24 as it stands "There are 14 million unregistered young people in this country. The last election the ANC only got 10 million votes. If those 14 million young people showed up (and voted for one party), they could unseat the ANC".
