Parenting in the 21st Century

As a young woman born in the nineties, I often wondered how I'd be able to raise my kids. Especially because I was born in a country that has been through the apartheid regime. Race plays and still does major role in the country. Often I'd wonder if I'd encourage my kids to be "anti or pro white". I'm 31 years old, raising a 12 years old. She has a handset, though I've not enforced social media yet, she uses google for school purposes. In my time this was not allowed. Alot was not allowed. It was easier to track a child interest and new behavioral habits. It has seemingly become impossible in this digital age.

I'll share some tips to patents raising teens and pre-teens:

• Let your guard down but be vigilant.

• Be open rather than being overly strict. I know this is tough.

• Ask them what they'd like to consume and suggest content that they might find interesting.

• Find your child's interests and work around that.
